10 Facts About New Library Construction in Hadley
- The library is positioned to apply for a building grant from the MBLC. These grants are awarded, on average, twice per decade.
- The trustees have started an endowment and are beginning a capital campaign to help offset the cost of the town portion. We hope to raise $500,000 for the project. We have already reached 10% of our fund-raising goal.
- The funding model for the new library is currently 54% grant funding from the MBLC, 10% from the Capital Campaign Committee (private funding) and 36% from the town.
- A vote in May allows us to use the land, and shows support of our design and grant application. It is not a financial commitment by the town. The financial commitment is required only after we are notified of our total grant award.
- The grant will be awarded July, 2017. Construction could begin as early as Spring of 2019.
- All areas of the new library will be accessible to all patrons.
- The new community room will be big enough for 75 people and will be available to the public even when the library is closed.
- The new library design addresses space needs for collections and occupancy not met by our present facility. A new library will have the capacity for a collection of twice the current size and allow for events that accommodate as many as 75 people.
- The new building will be energy efficient and environmentally friendly. LEED certification could result in additional grant funding for construction.
- The new library will have ample parking with 40 dedicated spaces. The current library has 9 parking spaces.
- The efficient design of the new library will minimize staffing costs while maintaining a secure, welcoming, full-service environment.
